📱 Basic Usage
StrideMap is an iOS step counter app that visualizes your steps as real-world distances and milestones. By converting step data from HealthKit, it shows achievements through 78 different milestones across 10 categories including islands, city travel, events, circuits, and space.
- Download and install StrideMap from the App Store
- Launch the app and grant HealthKit access permission
- Select your desired time period (yesterday, last month, etc.)
- Choose milestone categories that interest you
- View your step achievements and milestones
StrideMap offers 5 selectable time periods:
- Yesterday: Steps from the previous day
- Last Month: Steps from the previous calendar month
- Last Year: Steps from the previous calendar year
- Past 3 Years: Steps from the last 3 years
- All Time: All available step data in HealthKit
StrideMap features 78 milestones across 10 categories:
- Islands: 12 types (Sado Island, Yakushima, Taiwan, etc.)
- City Travel: 13 types (Tokyo-Osaka, Earth circumference, etc.)
- Rivers & Mountains: 5 types (Shinanogawa River, Mississippi River, etc.)
- Events: 3 types (Tokyo Marathon, Hakone Ekiden, NY Marathon)
- Bicycle: 9 types (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, etc.)
- Circuits: 10 types (Suzuka, Monaco, Nürburgring, etc.)
- Railways: 12 types (Yamanote Line, Trans-Siberian Railway, etc.)
- Continental Crossing: 5 types
- Continental Traversal: 6 types
- Space: 9 types (ISS orbit, Earth circumference, Earth-Moon, etc.)
🔧 Troubleshooting
Please check the following:
- HealthKit Permission: Go to Settings > Health > Data Access and Devices > StrideMap and ensure "Steps" permission is enabled
- iPhone Step Counting: Verify that your iPhone is recording steps in the Health app
- Time Period: Make sure you have step data for the selected time period
- App Restart: Close and reopen StrideMap
- Device Restart: Restart your iPhone/iPad
Possible causes and solutions:
- iOS Version: StrideMap requires iOS 18.5 or later
- Health App Setup: Complete the initial Health app setup if not done
- Restrictions: Check if Health data access is restricted in Screen Time or device management
- Reinstallation: Try deleting and reinstalling the app
- Update to the latest version of StrideMap
- Update iOS to the latest version
- Restart your device
- Free up storage space if low
- Delete and reinstall the app
- If the problem persists, contact support
Step counting accuracy can be affected by:
- Device Factors: iPhone model, placement, and motion sensors
- Movement Type: Walking style, activity type, and environment
- Third-party Apps: Other fitness apps may provide different counts
- Calibration: HealthKit automatically calibrates based on your movement patterns
StrideMap displays exactly what HealthKit provides, using the same data as the Health app.
🔒 Privacy & Security
Absolutely. StrideMap is designed with privacy as the top priority:
- All data is processed only on your device
- No data is sent to external servers
- No third-party services are used
- No ads or tracking
- No data sharing with others

StrideMap only accesses step count data from HealthKit:
- Read-only access: Cannot modify your health data
- Steps only: No access to other health information
- Real-time retrieval: Data is fetched when you use the app
- No storage: Data is not permanently stored in the app
Yes, you can revoke access anytime:
- Open iPhone Settings
- Tap "Health"
- Tap "Data Access and Devices"
- Tap "StrideMap"
- Turn off "Steps" permission
Once revoked, StrideMap will no longer be able to access your step data.

StrideMap uses a scientifically-based conversion rate:
- Conversion Rate: 1 step = 0.8 meters
- Formula: Distance (km) = Steps × 0.8 ÷ 1000
- Basis: Based on average adult stride length research
- Simplicity: Fixed rate for consistent calculations
This provides a reasonable estimate for milestone comparisons.
StrideMap supports:
- Japanese: Full localization including milestone names
- English: Complete translation of all content
- Automatic Detection: Language is set based on iOS system language
- In-App Switching: Change language within the app settings
Yes! StrideMap is compatible with iPad:
- Full Compatibility: Supports iPadOS 18.5 or later
- All Orientations: Portrait and landscape modes
- Multitasking: Split View and Slide Over support
- Same Features: Identical functionality to iPhone
Note: iPad step counting depends on wearing your iPhone or using Apple Watch.
Currently, StrideMap comes with 78 pre-defined milestones. Custom milestone creation is not available in the current version, but it's a feature we're considering for future updates.
The existing milestones cover a wide range of distances and interests, from local landmarks to global adventures.
